Beware of fraudsters

Beware of individuals and of fake lawyers and law firms offering to help asylum-seekers, refugees or subsidiary protection beneficiaries for very high fees.

There is no charge for any service provided by UNHCR, whether directly, or through its implementing partners. All services offered by UNHCR and its implementing partners are always FREE.

Any person claiming to be able to help an asylum-seeker, or a refugee, or a subsidiary protection beneficiary to receive a UNHCR service for money or favours should be reported. Allegations or suspicion of fraud can be submitted confidentially by email: [email protected].

You should also beware of criminal organisations that promise immigration and employment opportunities in other European Union countries, or Canada, Australia and the USA or elsewhere, in exchange for large sums of money.

  • Do not put your lives into the hands of these ruthless fraudsters.
  • Do not believe them.
  • Do not fall victim to their scams.

Free legal advice and other types of assistance and support to asylum-seekers are offered by a number of NGOs and other charitable organisations in Cyprus. See our Where can I seek help section for more information.
