Selection Criteria

To be considered for the DAFI scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:   

  • Reside in the Republic of Tajikistan and hold refugee or asylum seeker status. 
  • Be 28 years old or younger at the time of application. 
  • Hold a valid secondary education certificate. 
  • Possess above-average academic achievement. 
  • Have a good command of the language of instruction at the chosen university. 
  • Not currently receiving financial support from any other scholarship program. 
  • Require financial assistance to continue studies.   
  • Demonstrate strong motivation to contribute to the refugee community through leadership, volunteering, or community development activities. 

Scholarship Terms and Conditions  

If you are selected for the DAFI Scholarship, your scholarship may be renewed each year for up to four years. This depends on:  

  • Attending classes regularly  
  • Passing your exams and completing each semester  
  • Keeping a good academic record  
  • Participating in DAFI programme activities (such as DAFI club and volunteering)   

How to Apply

Before applying, you should decide:  

  • Which university/college in Tajikistan you want to attend  
  • What program you wish to study  
  • What are the admission requirements of university/college 

Applications are submitted online in English language. Follow these steps:   

  1. Go to DAFI Programme Management Platform 
  2. Complete the three steps on the registration page:   
    1. Create an account.  
    2. Start filling out the application (save your progress).  
    3. Submit your application.  
  3. Use your new account details to log in.   
  4. Click the “Start Application” button.   
  5. Fill out the application form. Mandatory questions are indicated.   
  6. Upload documents using the “Additional Attachments” tab for the required documents:   
    1. Identity document copy.   
    2. Refugee ID or asylum seeker certificate copy.   
    3. Secondary education certificate copy. 
    4. If applicable, academic transcript or credits from previous higher education.   
    5. Proof of university enrollment, if available. It’s preferred if you are already enrolled.   
    6. Proof of annual tuition fee amount  

Note:  

  • You can save and continue your application later, as long as the deadline has not passed.  
  • For technical issues, contact support via the platform’s “Support” section.   
  • The application must include all required documents. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  • The call for applications usually opens in June. All updates and deadlines will be shared on the official UNHCR Central Asia website and through UNHCR Tajikistan partner. 

Please note:   

  • The scholarship will be stopped immediately if academic fraud or misconduct is discovered.   
  • If a scholar regularly misses classes or performs poorly, the scholarship may be discontinued after a review.

After you submit your application, UNHCR will review it. If your application meets the criteria, you may be invited for an interview. If selected, UNHCR will contact you and you will sign a Scholarship Agreement to start the scholarship.
