How can refugees and asylum-seekers who are already registered with UNHCR update their mobile phone number when they have changed their number?

It is important that your phone number is up to date at all times. UNHCR uses your phone number to schedule appointments with you, and to share information which is relevant to you and your family. Kindly follow the step-by-step instructions in order to update your phone number through SMS. 

Step 1

  • Prepare your phone number and UNHCR Card or UNHCR Letter

Step 2

  • Key in: PHONE<space>Case number<space>Individual number<space>New phone number
  • Send it to 0111 7225 222

 

Step 3

  • You will receive confirmation of submission through SMS.

Step 4

  • Once the contact update is successful, you will receive a notification SMS.

  • If you do not receive the above notification SMS within 7 days, please re-send your SMS following Step 2.

Can I update more than one phone number?

Yes, you may update more than one phone number, in separate SMS-es.

Can I use my contact number as the contact for my immediate family numbers?

Yes, you may do so by using the same format with their respective case and individual numbers.

Can I insert more than one individual number in one SMS?

No. Please insert only one individual number at a time.

Can I insert more than one case number in one SMS?

No. Please insert only one case number at a time.

What happens if I do not receive the confirmation SMS after a week?

If you have yet to receive a confirmation SMS, please re-send your SMS.

Why have I not received the first SMS notification?

If you have yet to receive a SMS notification, please re-send your SMS.

Will UNHCR call me after my phone number has been successfully updated?

If your update has been successful, you will be notified via a confirmation SMS.

How much will I get charged per SMS?

The standard SMS rates provided by your telco provider applies.

Will UNHCR charge me for every contact update?

All UNHCR services are free of charge. You will not be charged for updating your contact number.

Are there other ways to update my phone number?

Yes, you may do so  at the UNHCR counters or during interviews with UNHCR staff members.
