Reporting fraud, exploitation or abuse

REFUGEE COMMUNITY LEADERS AND COMMUNITY-BASED STRUCTURES, SUCH AS COMMITTEES, GROUPS OR CLUBS, HAVE NO ROLE IN FACILITATING OR INFLUENCING ACCESS TO SERVICES AND ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY UNHCR AND PARTNERS

  • Always ask for an official UNHCR ID-card from anyone offering assistance with UNHCR-related services.
  • Ensure that all documents you present to UNHCR are genuine. If you suspect otherwise, inform us immediately.
  • If anyone requests money in exchange for UNHCR services, or if you have paid for such services, report the incident immediately through the formal channels.

How to report fraud, misconduct, exploitation or abuse committed by UNHCR staff, or staff of UNHCR’s partners?

If you have information about UNHCR staff, or staff of UNHCR partners or contractors involved in fraud, misconduct, exploitation (including sexual exploitation), or sexual abuse, report it immediately and directly to UNHCR’s  Inspector-General’s Office (IGO) at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Inspector General’s Office (IGO) provides independent assurance and oversight of UNHCR’s activities and operations.

How to report fraud or exploitation committed by a refugee or community leader?

  • Send an email with your complaint to UNHCR India at [email protected].
  • Use the online complaint form.

If you have changed your phone number, please inform UNHCR as soon as possible, as this is our primary means of contacting you.

Important notes:

  • UNHCR takes all complaints seriously and follows up on each case individually
  • Filing a complaint will not impact your case with UNHCR
  • Complaints can be submitted anonymously
  • Please provide all facts and evidence known to you
  • All communication with UNHCR is kept confidential
  • All communication with IGO is kept confidential
