Banking services

The requirements for opening a bank account are governed by two resolutions of the Junta de Política y Regulación Monetaria y Financiera del Ecuador (Board for Monetary and Financial Policy and Regulation of Ecuador), an institution responsible for regulating the requirements for opening bank accounts. These resolutions state that:

  • 611-2020-F: Persons seeking refugee status have to present their foreign identity documentation (identity card or passport issued by the country of origin) and a humanitarian visa, as the only requirements for opening a savings account. In the case of persons recognized as refugees, the presentation of the identity card granted by the State of Ecuador will be the only requirement.

  • 613-2020-F: Persons recognized as stateless persons or refugees have to present their identity documents (identity card or passport issued by the country of origin) and the humanitarian visa, as the only requirement for the opening of a basic account for credit unions (popular and solidarity economy system) In the case of persons recognized as refugees, the presentation of the identity card granted by the State of Ecuador will be the only requirement.

In addition, if you have a temporary or permanent residence visa in Ecuador and you have and ID card, you can access ?banking services.
