A refugee is someone who:
- has fled his/her country and cannot return because he/she fears persecution due to her political opinions, race, religion, nationality or membership of a particular social group. The latter may include women victims of domestic violence; LGBTI+ persons who have been threatened or violated; children and adolescents at risk of forced recruitment; human rights defenders, among other profiles

has fled his/her country and cannot return because his/her life, security and freedom have been threatened by widespread violence, internal conflicts, massive violations of human rights or other circumstances that have seriously disrupted public order.
- has left his/her country for any other reason, but once was away, he/she can no longer return for any of the situations described.
