UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a humanitarian agency created by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 1950. UNHCR works with government agencies, NGOs and civil society in the promotion and protection of refugee rights, especially those with specific needs.

HIAS Aruba is a UNHCR implementing partner for humanitarian assistance in Aruba. The humanitarian assistance program supports the most vulnerable refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants by providing referrals to counseling; medical support, assistance in school registration, and cash-based initiatives. The approval of assistance is subject to both socio-economic and risk evaluation, which are conducted at the HIAS Aruba office.

Department of Integration and Management and Admission of Foreigners (DIMAS for its Acronym in Papiamento) is the governmental department that is in charge of receiving asylum application. This is who you should turn to in order to apply for asylum. DIMAS is also the department that is responsible for reviewing and making decisions regarding your asylum application.
