Third Country Solutions

UNHCR works to protect and support refugees to find a solution that will allow them to rebuild their lives in dignity and peace. In Pakistan, UNHCR is involved in counseling and sharing information on verified opportunities for Complementary Pathways (education and scholarship opportunities, employment, family reunification, private or community sponsorship) with the support of its partners and in identifying cases for resettlement consideration. For more information, please consult the following sections.

Please note that the United States Government has announced the suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). UNHCR is awaiting further guidance from the U.S. Government regarding the impact this new order will have on refugees currently in the process of resettlement or a complementary pathway to the United States.

UNHCR has also been informed by the Government of Pakistan that all Afghans will need to relocate out of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, except for those with valid Pakistani visas. For those holding third country migration letters related to resettlement or relocation programs, the Government has given a deadline of 31 March. If you reside in Islamabad or Rawalpindi, UNHCR advises you to relocate outside the vicinity of the two cities by the deadline. If there is any change, UNHCR will immediately inform you.

Additionally, please remember to stay alert to scams targeting refugees/asylum seekers. Some people may try to exploit vulnerable situations with false promises or requests for money. ALL UNHCR SERVICES ARE FREE. For additional information, please click on the “Report Fraud” tab. Stay safe and stay informed!
