Checking the status of your resettlement case

Through My Services portal you can securely track the progress of your resettlement case with UNHCR without needing to visit the UNHCR office.

If you already have a My Services account, follow these steps to check your resettlement status:

  • Log in to My Services Portal,
  • Go to the Home page,
  • Select Resettlement to view your case details.

What you will see

  • Your case status (e.g. No cases to show, No active resettlement case, Not considered for resettlement, Submitted, Accepted, Denied, Under reconsideration, Departed, Closed)
  • Your case ID number, which is your unique reference number for any follow-up
  • A short message explaining what your case status means

What the case status means

Please note that we will always contact you if there is any change in your case, to provide counselling on the process. If you see a change in your status which was not explained to you, please contact UNHCR Helpline.

  • No Active Resettlement case: You are currently not submitted to any resettlement country. If there is any further update, or if UNHCR requires more information, we will contact you. Please note that resettlement is not a right, and available resettlement places are extremely limited. You cannot request resettlement for yourself or anyone else. Please ensure your contact details and personal information are always valid in the portal.
  • Not considered for Resettlement: Following careful consideration by UNHCR, and in accordance with resettlement countries’ criteria, your case could not be recommended for resettlement consideration, and your resettlement case is now closed. Please note that resettlement is not a right, and available resettlement places are extremely limited. Unfortunately, most refugees do not have access to this solution due to limited resettlement places, and strict criteria established by resettlement countries. Please note that there is no appeal for this decision.
  • Submitted: Your case has been submitted to a resettlement country. UNHCR cannot provide a timeline for how long it will take the resettlement country to assess your case, but it could still take a lot of time. The resettlement country assessment process may include interviews, biometrics collections, medical and security checks before they can take a final decision on your case. UNHCR cannot provide a timeline. Please be patient. For next steps, you will be contacted by either UNHCR, the resettlement country or partners working with resettlement countries. Please ensure your contact details and personal information are valid in the portal to facilitate the next steps of the resettlement process.
  • Accepted: Your case has been accepted by a resettlement country. However, there may still be several steps before your resettlement departure and this could still take time. The timeline for your departure is determined by the resettlement country and not UNHCR. The Resettlement country, UNHCR or partners working with resettlement countries will contact you about next steps when they have more information.
  • Denied: Your case was denied by the resettlement country and your resettlement case is now closed. You cannot appeal this decision. You have been counselled by UNHCR accordingly.
  • Closed: You are no longer under resettlement consideration with UNHCR. Please note that resettlement is not a right, and available resettlement places are extremely limited. You cannot request resettlement for yourself or anyone else. Please ensure your contact details and personal information are always valid in the portal.
  • Departed: You have already departed to the resettlement country, and your resettlement process is finalized. Your resettlement case with UNHCR is now closed.
  • Under Reconsideration: A request for reconsideration by the resettlement country is in process. You will be contacted by the resettlement country or its contracted agencies regarding the final outcome of your resettlement case. Please ensure your contact details and personal information are valid in the portal to facilitate the next steps of the resettlement process.

Note: Please note that closure of your resettlement case does not impact in any way any other protection process or services that you might be currently receiving or eligible for with UNHCR.

You will see messages explaining your specific situation when you check your status.
