Healthcare

  1. I need medical assistance or medication. Where can I find help? If you need primary medical assistance, contact HIAS at +297 730-7770. However, keep in mind that they will first need to review your case.
  2. What is the cost of a midwife? According to Cas di Partera, an uninsured person (without AZV) can expect to pay between 1000 AWG and 2000 AWG. The 1000 AWG price is for someone who has had or will have a cesarean section, while the 2000 AWG price is for someone who has not had a child before and will have a natural birth (without a cesarean).
  3. Cost of childbirth?
    • Natural birth: AWG 6000 – 8000*
    • Cesarean section: AWG 12000 – 15000*
    • Mother and child needing to stay in the pediatric ward: There is no fixed price, as it depends on how many days the child stays in the ward.
*These prices are subject to change depending on the case.
  4. I would like a gynecological check-up. What is the process in Aruba? The primary care doctor conducts the gynecological check-up. If you need a specialized check-up, the primary doctor can refer you to a gynecologist or you can schedule an appointment directly with one.
  5. I want a general check-up. What is the process? For a general check-up, you need to consult a primary care physician. You will need to call and make an appointment.
  6. If I have a health emergency or critical condition, can I go to the hospital? Will they accept me? The hospital is obligated to accept and assist you regardless of your legal status. However, after your service or stay, the hospital will have you sign a document outlining the monthly payment amount you need to pay. This allows you to arrange monthly payments if the total cost is high. Note: You should only go to the emergency room in case of actual emergencies. For other health concerns, you can visit the AZV Facebook page for more information or advice on what to do when experiencing symptoms or illness.
  7. Is there a child psychologist? Yes, HIAS has an associated child psychologist. If you would like to schedule an appointment, you can contact HIAS at their helpline: +297 730-7770.
  8. I have a medical condition and would like/need to go abroad for medical tests or surgery. Can UNHCR help me leave and re-enter Aruba? This is determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on your medical condition, the type of tests/surgeries needed, and your legal status. It is recommended to try the services available on the island, which may offer reduced-cost medical services. If the surgery or medical examination cannot be done in Aruba, please contact UNHCR for assistance.
