What document will I receive as an asylum-seeker?

You will receive an asylum-seeker certificate valid for one year. This document:

How do I renew my asylum-seeker certificate/ID card?

  • Non-Somalis: Contact the registration hotline via call, SMS, or WhatsApp to schedule an appointment. Bring all family members and any new-born’s birth certificate.
  • Somalis: Visit the IPNA offices in Basateen-Aden, Al Mukalla, or Kharaz Camp to renew your ID card.

What happens if I do not renew my expired certificate/ID card?

  • You will not be able to access UNHCR services or assistance.
  • UNHCR will deactivate your record if your document is not renewed within six months of expiry.
  • You may lose legal protection in Yemen, including protection from deportation.

What if I lose my certificate?

  • Report the loss to the nearest police station and obtain a police notification.
