Health services are subject to national and UNHCR standards, delivered by fully qualified medical staff.

UNHCR partner Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and UNHCR’s health partner Human Access (HA) operates health centers in the Sana’a area, Aden area and Kharaz camp. Refugees and asylum-seekers can approach these centers directly or call their emergency hotline.

Are health services free of charge?

Yes, all health services provided by UNHCR partners are free for refugees and asylum-seekers. However, if you use national health services, you must pay the same fees as Yemeni citizens.

What kind of health services does UNHCR provide?

UNHCR, through its partners, offers:

  • Primary and secondary health care
  • Provision of medicines
  • Laboratory tests related to supported services

Note: Some treatments and expensive medicines may not be covered. UNHCR works with an essential medicines list to ensure the availability of life-saving drugs.

What if I have an expired or invalid ID?

To access health services, your refugee/asylum-seeker ID must be valid. Please renew your documentation as soon as possible.

What if the medicine I need is not available?

UNHCR works to ensure a variety of essential medicines is always available. In cases of supply shortages, you may be referred to private pharmacies and assisted to obtain the required medicines free of charge.

Will UNHCR provide medical evacuation to another country?

No, UNHCR does not offer medical evacuation services. UNHCR focuses on providing health services within Yemen.

Can unaccompanied children access health services?

Yes, unaccompanied or separated children have the same access to health services as other refugees and asylum-seekers. In many cases, UNHCR child protection partners may assist them in seeking treatment.
