What are my rights and responsibilities as an IDP living in a hosting site?

As an IDP living in a hosting site, you have the right to:

  • Receive humanitarian assistance and protection according to your needs and the available services.
  • Live in a safe, secure, and dignified environment.
  • Participate in the management and decision-making of the site through site committees, focus group discussions (FGDs), site management and coordination (SMC) mobilizers, and Community-Based Protection Networks.
  • Access information and communication channels.
  • Express your feedback and complaints.
  • Choose your preferred durable solution.

You also have the responsibility to:

  • Respect the rules and regulations of the site.
  • Prevent and report any abuse, exploitation, or violence.
  • Respect the rights and dignity of other IDPs and host communities.
  • Cooperate with camp coordinators, camp managers, site committees, and other humanitarian actors.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the site.
  • Preserve the site environment and participate in community activities.

Who is responsible for managing and maintaining the site?

  • IDPs and site residents are responsible for the daily maintenance of the site and are encouraged to actively participate in its management.
  • The Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) organization ensures that the site is safe, secure, and accessible to all IDPs, while monitoring needs and coordinating services.
  • The site committee represents the community and participates in decision-making processes.
  • Local authorities provide legal and administrative support, ensure security, and facilitate access for humanitarian organizations.

  • Mobilizing the community for maintenance and other activities.
  • Resolving conflicts within the community.

What are the responsibilities of the local authorities?

Local authorities are responsible for:

  • Providing legal and administrative support and ensuring security in the site.
  • Facilitating access to the site for humanitarian organizations.
  • Respecting and upholding humanitarian principles and standards.
  • Supporting IDPs to pursue the durable solution of their choice.
