UNHCR provides a range of legal assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in key areas:
Counselling: IDPs receive information about their rights and responsibilities through group sessions and individual counselling. Topics covered include access to documentation, family law issues, and protection from exploitation and abuse.
Documentation Support: IDPs are assisted in obtaining, verifying and reissuing essential identity documents such as Yemeni ID cards. Access to these documents enables IDPs to exercise their rights and access services.
Mediation: UNHCR offers mediation support to resolve disputes, particularly those related to housing, land, and property (HLP) issues.
Awareness: Lawyers provide IDPs with information session on access to rights, available services and pathways to address legal issues.
