{"id":3923,"date":"2026-01-08T17:43:37","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T17:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/ukraine\/?page_id=3923"},"modified":"2026-03-27T10:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T10:35:08","slug":"statelessness-in-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/ukraine\/statelessness-in-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"Statelessness in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\" style=\"font-size:18px\">Statelessness affects thousands of people in Ukraine, leaving them without a nationality and often without access to basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment, legal identity, etc. UNHCR works to identify and protect stateless persons, persons with undetermined nationality and persons at risk of statelessness, and to support efforts to prevent and reduce statelessness across the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cde3f1;font-size:18px\"><strong>If you are not recognized as a citizen by any country, or if you have faced difficulties obtain a birth certificate or passport &#8211; documents that prove your nationality &#8211; you may be at risk of statelessness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"SLA\" style=\"font-size:18px\">UNHCR cooperates with&nbsp;partner&nbsp;organizations across Ukraine to provide&nbsp;<strong>free&nbsp;legal aid&nbsp;<\/strong>to stateless persons, persons with undetermined nationality&nbsp;and those at risk&nbsp;of statelessness. These partners can help you:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">Understand your legal status&nbsp;by providing&nbsp;legal counselling&nbsp;and help you with further administrative procedures&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">Gather the&nbsp;missing&nbsp;documents&nbsp;and support you with&nbsp;necessary&nbsp;applications, including&nbsp;representation&nbsp;in courts&nbsp;(if required), to&nbsp;establish&nbsp;your identity and confirm your nationality&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">Obtain a birth certificate or passport&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">Apply for recognition as a stateless person&nbsp;and obtain a residence permit, if Ukraine does not recognize you as a citizen&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">Acquire&nbsp;Ukrainian nationality&nbsp;after you have been recognized a stateless person<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
