Registering Birth

  • If Born at a Health Centre:
    • Ensure your baby’s birth is registered at the health centre.
    • Obtain the birth notification record (not a legal record) from the health centre.
  • If Born Outside Health Centre:
    • If the baby was born outside the health centre, record the birth with local leaders.
    • Have the birth stamped by the sub-county leadership.
  • Visit OPM and UNHCR Registration Desk:
    • Bring a copy of the birth notification and the baby to the OPM and UNHCR registration desk.
    • Add the baby to your family attestation.
  • Register with Sub-County:
    • Approach your sub-county with the birth notification to receive a short birth certificate.
  • Obtain Long Birth Certificate from NIRA:
    • After obtaining the short birth certificate, visit NIRA with both documents.
    • NIRA will provide you with a long birth certificate.
