Complementary Pathways

Are you a refugee or asylum seeker looking for a safe and legal way to enter and stay in another country? If so, you might be interested in Complementary Pathways

Complementary pathways are distinct from resettlement. Third countries set their own criteria for supplementary routes and decide who will be admitted to their territory. Refugees and asylum-seekers can apply directly for such opportunities, and a UNHCR referral is not required.

Please note that all UNHCR services, including complementary pathways, resettlement assistance, and other services, are always free of charge. If a UNHCR staff asks you for any form of payment for services, please report the matter to UNHCR via [email protected]. 

Watch out for people falsely claiming to have ties to UNHCR and/or its partners, including on various social networks.

Do not trust those who claim UNHCR services in exchange for money or other services, and if you encounter such, you should immediately report to UNHCR through [email protected]   or  Tel: 0800323232 and complaints box at the front door of all UNHCR offices within Uganda. 

For some Pathways, there may be a visa application fee and other administrative procedures. It is very important to check and verify the source of the fee request before you pay.
