UNHCR in Uganda & Contacts

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, works to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees all over the world.

UNHCR’s purpose is to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge from war and persecution. UNHCR also protects stateless persons.

In all its activities, UNHCR pays attention to the needs of children and seeks to promote the equal rights of women and girls.

The Government of Uganda leads the response to protect and assist refugees and asylum-seekers in Uganda. UNHCR provides direct operational support, capacity building, and technical advice to the Ugandan authorities.

As the refugee agency, UNHCR, jointly with the Government, also coordinates the efforts of UN agencies and partners to support Uganda’s refugee response and to avoid gaps in assistance.
