Urban refugees in Kampala access health services primarily through the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) health facilities and national referral hospitals located in different divisions.
The Africa Humanitarian Action (AHA), our health partner, doesn’t directly provide services but collaborates with KCCA to ensure urban refugees are included in all health-related services in the community and health facilities.
Accessing Healthcare Services:
Free Services: Refugees and asylum-seekers can walk into KCCA health facilities and access healthcare services at no cost, similar to how Ugandans access these services.
- AHA operates two offices (access points) in Rubaga and Nsambya. Refugees can seek support at these points to access health services not available at national health facilities, specifically for specialized investigations and treatment.
- AHA also supports refugees referred from refugee settlements to access specialized tertiary services in Kampala that are not available at regional and district hospitals, creating a referral system for advanced healthcare services.
