Due to these limitations and the large volume of requests received, most individuals will have to wait for up to two years before being registered.<br><br>\u2022 UNHCR cannot provide information or advice on visa or work permit matters.<br><br>\u2022 Registering with UNHCR does not provide you with a legal status in Thailand.<br><br>\u2022 Registering with UNHCR does not protect you from arrest and detention for illegal acts according to Thai law. Entering without a visa or overstaying your visa without any other valid right to stay in Thailand is regarded as illegal act by Thai law. Registering with UNHCR does not change this.<br><br>\u2022 Registering with UNHCR does not guarantee access to material assistance such as housing, medical care, financial or food support. Such support is extremely limited in Thailand and unavailable to the vast majority of refugees and asylum-seekers.<br><br>\u2022 Applying for asylum with UNHCR in Thailand does not mean you will be recognized as a refugee. This will depend on a detailed refugee status determination process. For newly registered persons, the waiting time can be several months to years because many people approach UNHCR.<br><br>\u2022 Even if you are recognized as a refugee, it is highly unlikely that you will be resettled to a third country. You cannot apply for resettlement. Less than 0.1% of the world\u2019s refugees are resettled due to the very limited possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you would like to register with UNHCR to apply for asylum in Thailand, please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/thailand\/my-services-portal\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1072\">My Services Portal<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are given a <strong>registration appointment<\/strong>, UNHCR will inform you of the date and time you should come to UNHCR\u2019s office to register in person.
