This means that it is possible to apply for and benefit from temporary protection in the EU until this date. If you already have temporary protection in an EU country, your status will be extended until 4 March 2027. Read more at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/press\/press-releases\/2025\/06\/13\/eu-member-states-agree-to-extend-temporary-protection-for-refugees-from-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the European Council\u2019s website<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility for Temporary Protection in Sweden for people fleeing Ukraine<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>People arriving from Ukraine may be entitled to temporary protection in Sweden. In particular, you may be eligible for <strong>Temporary Protection<\/strong> in Sweden if you left Ukraine on 24 February 2022 or later and you are a:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>citizen of Ukraine who used to live in Ukraine before 24 February 2022,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>foreigner or stateless person in Ukraine who had refugee or other international protection status or a permanent residence permit in Ukraine, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>family member of any of the above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Under Swedish rules, the following persons are considered as \u201cfamily member\u201d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a spouse or partner,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>underage unmarried child<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>other close relatives who lived in the same household and were the dependent of the Ukrainian citizen, or of the foreigner or stateless person who had refugee status or other international protection status in Ukraine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#000000fc\">If you have entered Sweden from 30 October 2021 to 23 February 2022 and you have continued to stay in Sweden after entry, you will also be eligible for temporary protection if you comply with any of the requirements indicated above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For information about how and where to apply for Temporary Protection in Sweden, please visit the website of the Swedish Migration Agency, available in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.migrationsverket.se\/other-languages\/ukrainska\/vi-hocete-podati-zaavku\/direktiva-pro-timcasovij-zahist.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ukrainian<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.migrationsverket.se\/English\/Private-individuals\/Protection-under-the-Temporary-Protection-Directive.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">English<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.migrationsverket.se\/English\/About-the-Migration-Agency\/About-the-website\/Other-languages\/Russkij\/Zasita-na-osnovanii-Direktivy-o-vremennoj-zasite.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.migrationsverket.se\/other-languages\/russkij\/vy-hotite-podat-zaavlenie\/vid-na-zitelstvo-na-osnovanii-direktivy-o-vremennoj-zasite.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Russian<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.migrationsverket.se\/Privatpersoner\/Skydd-enligt-massflyktsdirektivet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.migrationsverket.se\/du-vill-ansoka\/skydd-enligt-massflyktsdirektivet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Swedish<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Swedish Refugee Law Center (Asylr\u00e4ttcentrum)<\/strong> has a <a href=\"https:\/\/asylrattscentrum.se\/massflyktsdirektivet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/asylrattscentrum.se\/massflyktsdirektivet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website with information for persons who have fled from Ukraine and are seeking protection in Sweden<\/a> (you can select the language on the top right corner of the page, clicking on \u2018Select language\u2019).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">People who do not qualify for Temporary Protection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do not qualify for temporary protection, it may be possible for you to apply for asylum or remain in Sweden on other grounds even if your visa waiver or visa have expired. <a href=\"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/sweden\/asylum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Here you can find out how you can apply for asylum<\/a><a>. <\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are in Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluedothub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">please visit the Digital Blue Dot website<\/a> for information about rights and services and where to find help. The site is also available in <a href=\"https:\/\/bluedothub.org\/uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ukrainian<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bluedothub.org\/ru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Russian<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Refugees granted temporary protection who have lived in Sweden for more than 1 year<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Refugees with temporary protection who have lived in Sweden for more than 1 year can register in the population register at the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) and obtain a personal identity number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the personal identity number, you can apply for an ID card from the Swedish Tax Agency, open a bank account, get e-identification, and use Swish. Videoconference Verification via the PFU Portal<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You may request a video call via the PFU portal or by calling the hotline: <strong>0800 503 753<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calls are usually scheduled within 10\u201330 days and conducted via Google Meet, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Viber, or Zoom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will be asked to present your original passport\/ID and pension certificate during the call .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>3. Verification at a Ukrainian Consulate<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit the nearest Ukrainian consulate to confirm your identity and place of residence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will receive a <strong>certificate of identity<\/strong>, which you can upload via the PFU portal to complete verification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>4. In-Person Verification in Ukraine<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are currently in Ukraine, you can visit any PFU service centre. <br><strong>Please note:<\/strong> Due to the suspension of thousands of pensions in January 2026, long queues are currently reported nationwide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Requirement for Pensioners from Temporarily Occupied Territories (ToTs)<\/strong><br>If you are from the ToTs, you must confirm that you are <strong>not receiving a pension from the Russian Federation<\/strong>, by doing one of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Selecting the relevant declaration box in your PFU online account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stating this explicitly during videoconference verification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sending a written declaration by email or postal mail to the PFU<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing all steps, <strong>please verify that your PFU personal account reflects the correct date of verification and declaration<\/strong>.
