{"id":107,"date":"2020-07-09T13:25:15","date_gmt":"2020-07-09T13:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/russia\/?page_id=107"},"modified":"2024-02-05T15:45:49","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T15:45:49","slug":"applying-for-asylum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/russia\/en\/applying-for-asylum\/","title":{"rendered":"Applying for asylum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is considered a refugee?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to\nthe Russian legislation and the 1951 UN Convention Relating to the Status of\nRefugees, a <strong>refugee<\/strong> is defined as someone outside of his\/her country of\norigin who is unable to return there because of persecution on account of his\nrace, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or\npolitical opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\nconsider yourself to be a refugee, you should approach the Russian migration\nauthorities to apply for a refugee status in the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do\nnot meet the refugee definition but cannot return to your country of origin due\nto war, violence or any other humanitarian reasons (e.g. serious health\nissues), you have the right to apply for a <strong>temporary asylum<\/strong> (TA).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who is considered a refugee?
