HIAS is a global humanitarian organization, with approximately 140 years of history and trajectory, that protects refugees whose lives are in danger because of who they are. As an organization of Jewish origin, HIAS brings more than a century of experience to its work with refugees, helping them to take control and rebuild their lives safely and freely, advocating for the protection and dignity of all refugees and displaced persons.
What services do they offer?
- Psychosocial Support: HIAS provides psychosocial assistance and guidance to refugees, for their emotional well-being and integration in the Panamanian communities that receive them.
- Community Social Inclusion: HIAS works with host communities to contribute to their development in favor of refugees and the Panamanian population, in an integrated and inclusive way.
- Empowerment of Women: through workshops and training sessions, HIAS empowers women and LGTBIQ + people to reach their full potential, while establishing strong and safe support networks. Through community meetings, attention and response routes to cases of gender violence are strengthened, while community strategies for the prevention of violence against women are built.
- Access to services and protection: HIAS provides information to refugees to understand their rights and duties in the host country, as well as guidance and support for access to services in local institutions.
