Registration and Documentation
Registering and identifying refugees is crucial for asylum seekers and for Nigeria to monitor arrivals. It also ensures access to essential aid and protection.
The registration process allows early detection of individuals with special needs and facilitates their referral to appropriate protection services. Additionally, registration safeguards against forced return, also known as refoulement, arbitrary detention, and arrest. It also helps keep families together and supports UNHCR and the NCFRMI in reuniting children separated from their families.
In Nigeria, the Government, through NCFRMI, is primarily responsible for registering and issuing documentation to asylum-seekers and refugees.
How can I get registration or renewal of my document from the Government of Nigeria?
All registration services are FREE. Documents issued include Proof of Registration, Asylum Seeker Certificates, Refugee Certificates, Temporary Protection Status, National Identity Number (NIN), Birth Certificates, and Convention Travel Documents
You are required to approach the same office to renew expired or lost registered documents.
