{"id":143,"date":"2022-04-01T09:19:16","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T09:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/montenegro\/?page_id=143"},"modified":"2025-01-06T14:42:35","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T14:42:35","slug":"unhcrs-role-and-work-in-montenegro","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/montenegro\/unhcrs-role-and-work-in-montenegro\/","title":{"rendered":"UNHCR in Montenegro"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>UNHCR in Montenegro works with the Government and authorities, non-governmental and other organizations, and local communities to ensure that asylum seekers, refugees, temporary protection holders and stateless persons (hereinafter: forcibly displaced and stateless persons) are protected and that they can exercise their legally stipulated rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The main activities of UNHCR in Montenegro include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>advocating for the improvement of policies and services that affect the lives of forcibly displaced and stateless persons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>supporting national and local authorities to implement the official asylum procedure and ensure effective access to rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>informing forcibly displaced and stateless persons about their rights and obligations and assisting them in ensuring access to those rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>raising awareness of refugee and statelessness issues and collaboration with NGOs, academic institutions, the media, and the private sector<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>providing legal aid and psychosocial support to forcibly displaced and stateless persons through the partner organisations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR staff will listen to you and inform you of the options and available procedures to help you make informed decisions for yourself.&nbsp;<strong>Everything you say will be confidential<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UNHCR staff can give you clear and practical legal information, which includes, but is not limited to the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>what procedures do you have to complete upon arrival in Montenegro;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how to apply for asylum;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what assistance can you get as an asylum seeker;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what assistance you can get if you get international protection in Montenegro;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>where to get help if you are at risk because of your gender, age or sexual orientation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UNHCR staff will explain to you specific procedures that may apply to the following forcibly displaced groups:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>unaccompanied children;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>persons with a disability or persons suffering from a serious illness;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>elderly;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pregnant women or women having recently given birth;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>single parents with minor children;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>survivors of torture, rape or other serious forms of psychological, physical or sexual violence or exploitation, or persons with a post-traumatic disorder;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>victims of trafficking;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>persons at risk of statelessness and stateless persons.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR will also refer you to relevant organisations or authorities that may be able to provide you with the necessary services or support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UNHCR in Montenegro does not:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>register asylum seekers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>examine asylum applications,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>issue documents to asylum seekers and refugees,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>receive nor process resettlement applications,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other pages of this help page, you can find the relevant authority\/organization that can assist you with the above requests.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNHCR in Montenegro works with the Government and authorities, non-governmental and other organizations, and local communities to ensure that asylum seekers, refugees, temporary protection holders and stateless persons (hereinafter: forcibly displaced and stateless persons) are protected and that they can exercise their legally stipulated rights.
