as a refugee in Mexico through the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/mexico\/en\/where-to-seek-help\/contacta-a-la-comar\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1687\">Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR)<\/a> <strong>The process is free and confidential.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cce2f3\"><strong>Step 1.<\/strong> <strong>Submitting an Application<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/mexico\/en\/where-to-seek-help\/contacta-a-la-comar\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1687\"><strong>COMAR office<\/strong>&nbsp;(Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance)<\/a> within&nbsp;<strong>30 working days<\/strong>&nbsp;after you arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you couldn\u2019t go in that time, talk to the authorities and explain why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You can go to a COMAR office in:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mexico City<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tapachula and Palenque (Chiapas)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tenosique (Tabasco)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oluta (Veracruz)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guadalajara (Jalisco)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tijuana (Baja California)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saltillo (Coahuila)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monterrey (Nuevo Le\u00f3n)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also request to be contacted with COMAR from a migration station and submit your application there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is no COMAR office in the state where you are located, approach the Migration Regulation Offices of the <strong>National Institute of Migration (INM).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cce2f3\"><strong>Step 2.<\/strong> <strong>Fill out the form<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will fill out a form.<br>In it, you will explain why you left your country and why you cannot go back.<br>If you are with your family, include them in your application.<br>If your family is still in your country, say so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will receive a&nbsp;<strong>CONSTANCIA<\/strong>.<br>It is a paper that shows you have started your process.<br><strong>Keep your original CONSTANCIA safe!<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a refugee applicant, you have the right to get a&nbsp;<strong>temporary CURP<\/strong>.<br>This document helps you access services and do official paperwork.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With your CONSTANCIA, you can apply at&nbsp;<strong>INM<\/strong>&nbsp;for a&nbsp;<strong>Visitor Card for Humanitarian Reasons (TVRH)<\/strong>.<br>This card lets you&nbsp;<strong>work while you wait for a decision<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have the right to a&nbsp;<strong>public lawyer<\/strong>&nbsp;during the whole process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f You have the right&nbsp;<strong>not to be sent back to your country<\/strong>&nbsp;while your application is being reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cce2f3\"><strong>Step 3.<\/strong> <strong>Interview<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>COMAR will talk to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They will ask why you left your country.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Say why you cannot or do not want to go back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give as many details as you can.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p>If you have documents or information about your case, present them.<br>But <strong>you do not need<\/strong> proof of what happened in your country.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The interview is one-on-one.<\/strong><br>You can choose a man or a woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f <strong>If you do not speak Spanish, you have the right to an interpreter.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cce2f3\"><strong>Step 4.<\/strong> <strong>Application Decision<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2705&nbsp;If your application is accepted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>COMAR<\/strong> will tell you to go to the <strong>INM<\/strong> to <strong>process your permanent residence in Mexico<\/strong> as a recognized refugee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your family will also be recognized as refugees if they are included in your application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u274c&nbsp;If your application is rejected:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can <strong>appeal<\/strong> (ask for your case to be reviewed again).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have <strong>15 business days<\/strong> to do so (Monday to Friday, excluding holidays).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>COMAR<\/strong> will review your case a second time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you do not have a lawyer, you can go to an office of the <strong>Federal Institute of Public Defense (IFDP).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\ud83d\uded1\u00a0If COMAR rejects your case again:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have the right to receive <strong>legal advice<\/strong> to continue your appeal before a judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udd01\u00a0If you do not want a second review:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can return to your country if you decide to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fdf799\"><strong>Your obligations during the refugee status recognition process:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Go to sign<\/strong> on the days indicated at the COMAR or INM office, depending on where you started your process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stay in the state<\/strong> where you submitted your application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you need to move to another state, <strong>you must request authorization from COMAR.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you move without permission, <strong>your case will be considered abandoned.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Attend all interviews<\/strong> requested by COMAR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2139\ufe0f Find all this information in the <a
