Decision on your asylum (international protection) application"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cccccc30\">If your application for asylum (international protection) is examined as part of a normal procedure, a decision is generally taken within <strong>six months<\/strong> of the introduction of your application.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your application is processed as part of an accelerated procedure, the Minister is obliged to take a decision no later than <strong>two months<\/strong> from the day it appears that you fall under one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/citoyens\/immigration\/cas-specifiques\/protection-internationale\/demande-protection-internationale.html#bloub-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scenarios&nbsp;justifying an accelerated procedure<\/a> (if you are in Luxembourg, see <a href=\"https:\/\/info-dpi.public.lu\/en\/protection-internationale\/introduire-premiere-demande-luxembourg\/prise-de-decision.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four possible decisions the <a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/citoyens\/organismes\/organismes_citoyens\/ministere-interieur\/direction-immigration-service-refugies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ministry of Home Affairs (Direction g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l\u2019Immigration, Service des r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s)<\/a> can make on your asylum (international protection) application:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/citoyens\/immigration\/cas-specifiques\/protection-internationale\/demande-protection-internationale.html#bloub-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>granting refugee status<\/strong><\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/info-dpi.public.lu\/en\/protection-internationale\/introduire-premiere-demande-luxembourg\/decision-octroi-protection-internationale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">if you are in Luxembourg see this website<\/a>): you will obtain a residence permit valid for 5 years. With that and, where necessary, a visa, you are also entitled to a travel document for refugees which allows you to travel outside Luxembourg. However, you are not allowed to return to your country of origin, otherwise, you will lose your refugee status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/citoyens\/immigration\/cas-specifiques\/protection-internationale\/demande-protection-internationale.html#bloub-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>granting subsidiary protection status<\/strong><\/a> (if you are in Luxembourg, see <a href=\"https:\/\/info-dpi.public.lu\/en\/protection-internationale\/introduire-premiere-demande-luxembourg\/decision-octroi-protection-internationale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>): you will obtain a residence permit valid for 5 years. As a beneficiary of subsidiary protection status, you must in principle have a valid national passport to travel outside Luxembourg as well as your residence permit and, where necessary, a visa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>refusing both refugee status and subsidiary protection status<\/strong>: the Ministry of Home Affairs considers that you do not meet the criteria to be granted asylum (international protection).
