Step 3. Assessment of your application

If the application is admissible, the Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct an in-depth personal interview. The interview is an opportunity for you to explain in detail the reasons for your asylum (international protection) application and also the reasons why you have left your country, therefore:

  • You must present yourself in person at the scheduled date and time with your invitation and certificate (pink document) at the Department for Refugees at the General Department of Immigration (DGIM). Failure to show up at the scheduled interview can only be justified by medical reasons;
  • Each adult of the same family is interviewed separately. Another member of the family may exceptionally be present;
  • You are allowed to be assisted by an interpreter, and a lawyer may also assist you;
  • The answers to the questions must be sincere, clear and reflect the truth;
  • You must produce, if you have them, the original documents or other papers which may prove your identitynationality, marital status, reason for your application, etc. Any document submitted in a language other than German, English or French must be accompanied by a translation in one of these 3 languages.
  • Statements made during the interview are noted to draw up a written, detailed and factual report. You have the right to read over the report or to have it read out loud. Finally, you are invited to sign the report to confirm its content.
  • Interviews are confidential;
  • Besides the interview, you may be asked to do linguistic tests or a medical examination as part of the assessment of your application.
