Due to limited quotas and specific requirements for these quotas, having a referral or an interview with a resettlement staff member does not guarantee a submission or your resettlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR encourages refugees identified for resettlement not to take action to leave their homes, sell their belongings, stop working, or take their children out of school until they have been notified of a confirmed resettlement departure date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having a work permit, being employed, or enrolled in school, does not affect your resettlement case or the assistance you may be receiving from UNHCR or its partners. On the contrary, work experience and additional education will help refugees whether in Lebanon or in the resettlement country integrate and live in dignity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-help-unhcr-q-and-a-inner q-and-a-inner accordion-item my-10 active\" id=\"qa-36\" data-item-content=\"q-and-a-item-5\" itemscope itemprop=\"mainEntity\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Question\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"q-and-a-item-5\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-info collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-qa-36-5\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-qa-36-5\"><span class=\"accordion-count\">5<\/span><span class=\"q-and-a__box-title fw-bolder fs-3\">What other organizations are involved in my resettlement case and departure?\u2b07\ufe0f<\/span><\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse-qa-36-5\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"q-and-a-item-5\" data-bs-parent=\"\"><div class=\"accordion-body py-16 px-20\" itemscope itemprop=\"acceptedAnswer\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Answer\">\n<p>UNHCR is responsible for the identification, initial interview, and submission of your resettlement case. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is responsible for departure arrangements and the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) and TOLL are engaged in the processing of cases submitted for resettlement to the USA and Australia respectively.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-help-unhcr-q-and-a-inner q-and-a-inner accordion-item my-10 active\" id=\"qa-36\" data-item-content=\"q-and-a-item-6\" itemscope itemprop=\"mainEntity\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Question\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"q-and-a-item-6\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-info collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-qa-36-6\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-qa-36-6\"><span class=\"accordion-count\">6<\/span><span class=\"q-and-a__box-title fw-bolder fs-3\">How long does it take between the resettlement interview and departure? Why is my resettlement case taking so long?\u2b07\ufe0f<\/span><\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse-qa-36-6\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"q-and-a-item-6\" data-bs-parent=\"\"><div class=\"accordion-body py-16 px-20\" itemscope itemprop=\"acceptedAnswer\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Answer\">\n<p>Resettlement is generally a very long process for all the persons concerned. The processing time varies from country to country, due to different immigration laws, priorities and resources. It is very hard to predict how long it may take from the time a resettlement interview with UNHCR has been completed to the time of departure. Issues such as birth, marriage, pregnancy, divorce and custody, registration, and deaths have to be properly assessed and resolved before resettlement can happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may take many months or several years, depending on the resettlement country and its procedures. Some resettlement countries may also undertake additional interviews, after the initial one with refugees in the resettlement pipeline. You will be required to undergo medical checks and will receive further information from the resettlement country, IOM, ICMC and TOLL prior to departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR will be in contact with you during the different stages of the resettlement process, but it is important to be patient. It is important that you know that the resettlement country may decide not to accept your case, which means that UNHCR\u2019s submission does not guarantee departure.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-help-unhcr-q-and-a-inner q-and-a-inner accordion-item my-10 active\" id=\"qa-36\" data-item-content=\"q-and-a-item-7\" itemscope itemprop=\"mainEntity\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Question\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"q-and-a-item-7\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-info collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-qa-36-7\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-qa-36-7\"><span class=\"accordion-count\">7<\/span><span class=\"q-and-a__box-title fw-bolder fs-3\">Who makes the final decision on my case for resettlement?\u2b07\ufe0f<\/span><\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse-qa-36-7\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"q-and-a-item-7\" data-bs-parent=\"\"><div class=\"accordion-body py-16 px-20\" itemscope itemprop=\"acceptedAnswer\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Answer\">\n<p>UNHCR identifies refugees who may need resettlement and interviews them to collect the information that a resettlement country will require. However, the final decision on whether or not to accept someone for resettlement is made by <strong>resettlement countries<\/strong> and not by UNHCR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resettlement countries also apply specific criteria and policies which may prevent UNHCR from referring certain types of cases to them. If a resettlement country rejects your resettlement case, UNHCR will continue to provide you with assistance and protection in Lebanon for as long as UNHCR considers that you need international protection.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-help-unhcr-q-and-a-inner q-and-a-inner accordion-item my-10 active\" id=\"qa-36\" data-item-content=\"q-and-a-item-8\" itemscope itemprop=\"mainEntity\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Question\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"q-and-a-item-8\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-info collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-qa-36-8\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-qa-36-8\"><span class=\"accordion-count\">8<\/span><span class=\"q-and-a__box-title fw-bolder fs-3\">Can I withdraw from resettlement after my case has been submitted?\u2b07\ufe0f<\/span><\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse-qa-36-8\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"q-and-a-item-8\" data-bs-parent=\"\"><div class=\"accordion-body py-16 px-20\" itemscope itemprop=\"acceptedAnswer\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Answer\">\n<p><strong>ATTENTION! &nbsp;<\/strong>Requesting your case to be withdrawn does not mean it will be re-submitted to another country and it can result in your resettlement case being closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resettlement places are very limited, and withdrawals result in missed opportunities for many vulnerable refugees.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-help-unhcr-q-and-a-inner q-and-a-inner accordion-item my-10 active\" id=\"qa-36\" data-item-content=\"q-and-a-item-9\" itemscope itemprop=\"mainEntity\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Question\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"q-and-a-item-9\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-info collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-qa-36-9\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-qa-36-9\"><span class=\"accordion-count\">9<\/span><span class=\"q-and-a__box-title fw-bolder fs-3\">UNHCR has contacted me and informed me that my file is not considered for resettlement. What does this mean?\u2b07\ufe0f<\/span><\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse-qa-36-9\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"q-and-a-item-9\" data-bs-parent=\"\"><div class=\"accordion-body py-16 px-20\" itemscope itemprop=\"acceptedAnswer\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Answer\">\n<p>UNHCR regularly counsels refugees on their resettlement case status. If you have received a call from UNHCR stating that your file is not considered for resettlement, this means you do not currently have an active resettlement case. This does not affect your situation in Lebanon regarding UNHCR\u2019s protection or any assistance that you may be receiving from UNHCR and its partners.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-help-unhcr-q-and-a-inner q-and-a-inner accordion-item my-10 active\" id=\"qa-36\" data-item-content=\"q-and-a-item-10\" itemscope itemprop=\"mainEntity\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Question\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"q-and-a-item-10\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-info collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-qa-36-10\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-qa-36-10\"><span class=\"accordion-count\">10<\/span><span class=\"q-and-a__box-title fw-bolder fs-3\">What happens if my case is rejected for resettlement by the resettlement country?\u2b07\ufe0f<\/span><\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse-qa-36-10\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"q-and-a-item-10\" data-bs-parent=\"\"><div class=\"accordion-body py-16 px-20\" itemscope itemprop=\"acceptedAnswer\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Answer\">\n<p>If your case is rejected by the resettlement country, you will be contacted by the resettlement country and\/or UNHCR to inform you about the decision and explain what it means to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR will re-assess your case and decide if there is a possibility for your case to be re-submitted, but only a small number of cases are re-submitted to another country.&nbsp; You will be informed by UNHCR if your case is eligible for resubmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your resettlement case is rejected by the resettlement country, this does not affect your situation in Lebanon as a refugee under UNHCR\u2019s protection. It also does not affect any assistance that you may be receiving from UNHCR.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-help-unhcr-q-and-a-inner q-and-a-inner accordion-item my-10 active\" id=\"qa-36\" data-item-content=\"q-and-a-item-11\" itemscope itemprop=\"mainEntity\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Question\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"q-and-a-item-11\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-info collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-qa-36-11\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-qa-36-11\"><span class=\"accordion-count\">11<\/span><span class=\"q-and-a__box-title fw-bolder fs-3\">If I am resettled, can my family members join me after?\u2b07\ufe0f<\/span><\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse-qa-36-11\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"q-and-a-item-11\" data-bs-parent=\"\"><div class=\"accordion-body py-16 px-20\" itemscope itemprop=\"acceptedAnswer\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Answer\">\n<p>It is very important that you declare your family members, especially nuclear family members, such as spouses and children under 18 during the resettlement process so that they are contained in UNHCR\u2019s records. There is no guarantee that your family members will be able to join you in the resettlement country later, as this will depend on the legislation and criteria of your new country of residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many countries limit the family reunification criteria to nuclear family members and have socio-economic requirements that must be met before you can sponsor your family members to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family reunification procedures are generally initiated by refugees by applying to the respective immigration authorities after they settle in the resettlement country.
