They may be at risk of, or have experienced, violence, exploitation, abuse or neglect. This includes sexual and gender-based violence such as child marriage, defilement, survival sex, and early pregnancy, as well as child labour and exploitation, child trafficking, being out of school, mental health issues, drug and substance abuse and malnutrition.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-06d4b312400c91092bceb29612e2ef10\" style=\"color:#0072bc\">What does UNHCR and partners do to protect children?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR and our partners are committed to safeguarding children and adolescents, ensuring their rights and well-being are prioritized through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Partnership Approach:<\/strong>\u00a0Collaborates with children, communities, national authorities, and organizations and NGOs for child protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Specific Support for Children:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Individual support for at-risk children or those separated from families.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to family tracing, reunification services, and alternative care for unaccompanied or separated children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Engagement and Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Involves children in activities and education to develop their skills and capacities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are a newly arrived unaccompanied child, or your children need assistance, or you know children who need assistance, please call the UNHCR helpline ?1517, or reach out to the organizations below that work with UNHCR to provide services for children at risk and their families, including support through a social worker, psychosocial support and counseling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family tracing may be initiated by UNHCR child protection staff or its child protection partner, HIAS, for children with missing family members.\u202fUNHCR or HIAS will refer the request for tracing to the Kenya Red Cross who then will review the case and determine whether tracing can be initiated.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Organizations providing support to children&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Child Line Kenya: 116&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gender-Based Violence Hotline: 1195&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Department of Children Services, Sub County Children&#8217;s Office:&nbsp;
