{"id":286,"date":"2021-12-28T15:19:25","date_gmt":"2021-12-28T15:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/italy\/?page_id=286"},"modified":"2024-05-24T13:30:53","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T13:30:53","slug":"report","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/italy\/report\/","title":{"rendered":"How to report sexual exploitation and abuse by a UNHCR, UN or NGO staff member?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sexual exploitation and abuse\u00a0against refugees, asylum seekers and stateless people is\u00a0considered\u00a0unacceptable\u00a0behaviour\u00a0and\u00a0it is\u00a0prohibited for all United Nations and NGO partner staff members.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is sexual exploitation?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>It is any actual or attempted abuse of a position of vulnerability, differential power, or trust, for sexual purposes.&nbsp;It includes trafficking and prostitution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is sexual abuse?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>It is any actual or threatened&nbsp;physical intrusion of a sexual nature, whether by force, or under unequal or coercive conditions. It includes sexual slavery, pornography, child abuse and sexual assault.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In line with the United Nations standards of conduct, the staff members of UNHCR and NGO partners must not:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have sexual activity with anyone in exchange for money, employment, preferential treatment, goods or services\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have sexual activity with\u00a0any\u00a0person\u00a0under\u00a0the age of 18 years\u00a0(regardless of the local age of consent or majority)\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage in any other form of sexually humiliating, degrading or exploitative\u00a0behaviour.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are aware of, or have concerns or suspicions about a possible case of sexual exploitation and abuse by a UNHCR, UN or NGO staff member, please report this directly to the Inspector General\u2019s Office (IGO) at UNHCR Headquarters:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Email<\/strong>:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:inspector@unhcr.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inspector@unhcr.org<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Confidential fax<\/strong>: +41 22 739 7380\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mail<\/strong>: UNHCR, 94 Rue de\u00a0Montbrillant, 1202 Geneva, Switzerland\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In your report, you should include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What happened?\u00a0Describe in detail what you know about the incident or incidents.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who committed the alleged wrongdoing?\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you know if anyone else was involved?
