{"id":146,"date":"2021-12-28T08:50:36","date_gmt":"2021-12-28T08:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/italy\/?page_id=146"},"modified":"2022-06-22T12:43:26","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T12:43:26","slug":"rights","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/italy\/asylum-italy\/rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Your rights and duties"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rights and&nbsp;obligations&nbsp;of recognized refugees and&nbsp;beneficiaries of subsidiary protection&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After being granted&nbsp;asylum&nbsp;in Italy (as a refugee&nbsp;or&nbsp;a&nbsp;beneficiary of subsidiary protection)&nbsp;these are your rights and obligations:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RIGHTS&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You will be provided with a\u00a0Residence Permit\u00a0that is valid for\u00a05\u00a0years. Your Residence Permit may be renewed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>You will have access to work, education, social welfare and medical care under the same terms and conditions as Italian citizens.\u00a0<\/li><li>You can apply for a travel document\u00a0and\u00a0go abroad\u00a0on the basis of\u00a0the laws\u00a0of the country you are travelling to.\u00a0You\u00a0may\u00a0visit other\u00a0European Union\u00a0countries as a tourist, but you cannot stay\u00a0there\u00a0for more than 90 calendar days within a six-month\u00a0period.\u00a0<\/li><li>You can apply for a long-term residence permit after you complete 5 years\u00a0\u03bff\u00a0legal and continuous stay in\u00a0Italy\u00a0and if you meet all additional requirements\u00a0listed in\u00a0the law.\u00a0<\/li><li>You have access to\u00a0welfare\u00a0benefits\u00a0(as\u00a0basic income)\u00a0just like\u00a0an Italian citizen\u00a0<\/li><li>You have the right to be reunited with your family members who are in your country of origin or in another third country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>You can obtain Italian nationality after 5 years if you are refugee, or\u00a0after\u00a010 years\u00a0if you are\u00a0a\u00a0subsidiary protection holder, when\u00a0you meet relevant social integration requirements\u00a0listed in Italian\u00a0law.\u202f\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OBLIGATIONS&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You must respect&nbsp;Italian&nbsp;law. If you commit criminal acts, you risk losing your protection status.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Children between 6 and 16&nbsp;are obliged to go to school.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rights and&nbsp;obligations&nbsp;of&nbsp;asylum-seekers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a registered asylum-seeker in&nbsp;Italy,&nbsp;these are your&nbsp;rights and obligations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You have the right to receive information about your asylum application, rights and&nbsp;obligations&nbsp;in a language you understand.&nbsp;<\/li><li>You are entitled to basic assistance including accommodation, food, legal, medical and psychosocial assistance.&nbsp;<\/li><li>You have the right to be hosted in a reception&nbsp;centre&nbsp;(for free). You cannot choose which reception&nbsp;centre&nbsp;you will be hosted in. You are not obliged to stay at the reception&nbsp;centre&nbsp;which you have been assigned to and you can move&nbsp;freely&nbsp;around within Italy.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>You have the right to work 60 days after you have submitted your application for&nbsp;asylum&nbsp;(international protection).&nbsp;<\/li><li>You can legally stay in&nbsp;Italy&nbsp;until a final decision on your application&nbsp;is&nbsp;taken&nbsp;(with some exceptions. Please ask&nbsp;legal&nbsp;operator in the&nbsp;reception center).&nbsp;<\/li><li>Children are entitled to education.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OBLIGATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You must respect&nbsp;Italian&nbsp;law.&nbsp;If you commit criminal acts, you risk&nbsp;that&nbsp;your&nbsp;asylum&nbsp;application will be rejected.&nbsp;<\/li><li>You are obliged to cooperate fully with the&nbsp;Italian&nbsp;authorities.&nbsp;<\/li><li>You are&nbsp;not&nbsp;allowed to travel to another country.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Residents of a reception center need to comply with the house rules of the reception center.
