There is detailed information in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/46f7c0ee2.pdf\">UNHCR Resettlement Handbook<\/a>&nbsp;on how&nbsp;UNHCR identifies&nbsp;refugees in need of resettlement and on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/en-ie\/protection\/resettlement\/3d464e842\/unhcr-resettlement-handbook-chapter-6-unhcr-resettlement-submission-categories.html\">Resettlement Submission Categories<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resettlement is&nbsp;<strong>not a right&nbsp;<\/strong>and there is no obligation on States to accept refugees for resettlement.&nbsp;Being recognized as a refugee does&nbsp;<strong>not&nbsp;<\/strong>automatically mean that you will be referred for resettlement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a huge&nbsp;gap between the number of&nbsp;refugees&nbsp;in need of resettlement and the places made available by governments around the world,&nbsp;so&nbsp;<strong>resettlement is only available to a small number<\/strong>&nbsp;of the world\u2019s refugees.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How does resettlement&nbsp;to Ireland&nbsp;work?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a fixed&nbsp;process&nbsp;to determine who will be given a place in the resettlement&nbsp;programme. The Irish government decides how many refugees they will bring to Ireland each year and what countries to resettle from, based on UNHCR&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/protection\/resettlement\/60d320a64\/projected-global-resettlement-needs-2022.html\">Projected Global Resettlement Needs<\/a>. UNHCR&nbsp;examines cases&nbsp;in those countries&nbsp;according to&nbsp;set&nbsp;criteria and then&nbsp;refers&nbsp;refugees&nbsp;most in need of resettlement&nbsp;for admission to&nbsp;Ireland. The&nbsp;Irish&nbsp;authorities&nbsp;decide&nbsp;who will be admitted&nbsp;to Ireland&nbsp;as part of the&nbsp;programme. The UNHCR Office in&nbsp;Ireland&nbsp;is&nbsp;<strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;responsible for deciding who will be resettled.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who&nbsp;can be&nbsp;resettled to Ireland?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Irish government decides each year how many refugees to resettle in Ireland and from which countries. Once a location is chosen, the UNHCR office in that country, not UNHCR Ireland, identifies refugees in need of resettlement. Recently, Ireland has welcomed Syrian refugees from Lebanon and Jordan.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can UNHCR&nbsp;Ireland&nbsp;help me to be resettled to Ireland?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR Ireland <strong>cannot <\/strong>help you to be resettled to Ireland.\u00a0 If you are a refugee outside Ireland, you should contact the UNHCR office where you are registered to discuss if resettlement is possible for you. You can find contact details for UNHCR offices worldwide on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/en-au\/where-we-work.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNHCR website<\/a> and useful information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNHCR Help pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I live in\u202fIreland,\u202fbut I have family who are refugees in another country. Can you help them to be resettled to Ireland?\u202f<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR Ireland does\u202f<strong>not <\/strong>select refugees for resettlement to Ireland. If your family members are registered as refugees in another country, they should contact the UNHCR office there to ask if they are eligible for resettlement. They should tell UNHCR that they have family in Ireland. It is essential that refugees provide complete and accurate information&nbsp;in the refugee and resettlement process. Misrepresenting family composition, or providing false information, is a form of fraud. If fraud is discovered after resettlement it can have serious consequences resulting in a&nbsp;c<strong>ancellation of residence permission<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>possible deportation.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is community sponsorship?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community Sponsorship Ireland (CSI) was established in 2018&nbsp;to&nbsp;complement&nbsp;State-sponsored&nbsp;resettlement. Refugees are identified and selected in the same way as for traditional resettlement. However, on arrival in Ireland, they are supported by a local community group who will provide housing and other supports for up to 2 years.&nbsp;The government agency responsible for resettlement and community sponsorship is the Irish Refugee Protection&nbsp;Programme&nbsp;(IRPP).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike some&nbsp;private&nbsp;sponsorship&nbsp;programmes&nbsp;operated by other countries, it is&nbsp;not&nbsp;possible&nbsp;under the CSI&nbsp;programme&nbsp;for sponsors to&nbsp;identify or&nbsp;nominate&nbsp;specific individuals&nbsp;or families&nbsp;to be resettled to Ireland.&nbsp;The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/theopencommunity.ie\/community-sponsorship-supports\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open Community<\/a> has lots of information on community sponsorship for individuals and groups in Ireland who are interested in forming a community sponsorship group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can UNHCR Ireland assist me to move or resettle to another country?<\/strong><strong><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No, there is no onward resettlement programme to move from Ireland to a third country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNHCR in Ireland therefore cannot assist you to resettle to another country.
