{"id":136,"date":"2022-12-12T16:13:46","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T16:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/iceland\/?page_id=136"},"modified":"2025-05-09T11:51:06","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T11:51:06","slug":"what-can-be-the-decision-in-my-case","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/iceland\/how-can-i-apply-for-asylum-in-iceland\/what-can-be-the-decision-in-my-case\/","title":{"rendered":"What can be the decision in my case?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The decision on your asylum case will be communicated by the Directorate of Immigration to you or your legal representative in Icelandic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four possible outcomes of the asylum procedure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You are <strong>recognized as a refugee<\/strong> and issued a temporary residence permit with an initial duration of 3 years, which can be extended periodically for 3-years periods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are <strong>granted subsidiary protection<\/strong> and issued a temporary residence permit with an initial duration of 2 years, which can be extended for 2-year periods. The Directorate of Immigration may review your protection needs as you apply for an extension to your residence permit. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are <strong>granted a residence permit on humanitarian grounds<\/strong> and issued a temporary residence permit with an initial duration of 1 year, which can be extended for 1-year periods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your application for international protection is <strong>denied<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><font><strong><font>\u27a1\ufe0f<\/font><\/strong><\/font><strong>If\u00a0your asylum application is recognised\u00a0<\/strong>(refugee status or subsidiary protection), the Directorate of Immigration will give you a document describing your rights and obligations. The rights and services are  similar, whether you are recognized as a refugee or granted subsidiary protection.
