The requirements for opening a bank account are regulated by three resolutions issued by the Monetary and Financial Policy and Regulation Board of Ecuador, the institution responsible for defining the requirements for opening bank accounts. These resolutions state that:
To open a savings account or a basic account in banks or credit unions:
Applicants for refugee status must present their foreign identity document (identity card or passport issued by their country of origin) and their humanitarian visa.
Individuals who are recognized as refugees only need to present their Ecuadorian identity card.
