If you fled your country and cannot return because you or your family experienced violence or threats against your life, freedom, or security, you may be a refugee.
You may be a refugee if:
π You have suffered violence, abuse, or discrimination due to your race, religion, nationality, political opinions, or sexual orientation or identity.
π You have been a victim of sexual abuse or exploitation, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, or physical violence.
π You were recruited to participate in a war or conflict, or were forced to use weapons.
π You have suffered torture or inhuman treatment.
π You have been affected by conflict or violence in your country and would be at risk if you returned.
If this applies to you, you can request to be recognized as a refugee so that you are protected and not returned to the country you had to flee.
If you believe you fit this description, you can apply for refugee status. Learn how at this link: How can I apply for refugee status?
