Shops, banks, and offices may also be closed on the eve of a holiday. The following are annual public holidays in Cyprus:<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Year\u2019s Day<\/strong> \u2013 January 1<br \/>\n<strong>Epiphany<\/strong> \u2013 January 6<br \/>\n<strong>Green Monday<\/strong> \u2013 First day of Lent. Different date every year; for 2026 the date was 23 February.<br \/>\n<strong>National Holiday<\/strong> \u2013 March 25<br \/>\n<strong>National Holiday<\/strong> \u2013 April 1<br \/>\n<strong>Greek Orthodox Good Friday<\/strong> \u2013 Friday before Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday; different date every year.<br \/>\n<strong>Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday<\/strong> \u2013 Different date every year; for 2025 the date was 20 April and for 2026, the date is 12 April.<br \/>\n<strong>Greek Orthodox Easter Monday <\/strong>\u2013 The Monday after Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday; different date every year.<br \/>\n<strong>Labour Day<\/strong> \u2013 May 1<br \/>\n<strong>Orthodox Pentecost \/ Whit Monday (\u2018Kataklysmos\u2019) <\/strong>\u2013 Fifty days after Easter Sunday<br \/>\n<strong>Assumption of Mary<\/strong> \u2013 August 15<br \/>\n<strong>Cyprus Independence Day<\/strong> \u2013 October 1<br \/>\n<strong>National Holiday<\/strong> \u2013 October 28<br \/>\n<strong>Christmas Day<\/strong> \u2013 December 25<br \/>\n<strong>Boxing Day<\/strong> \u2013 December 26<\/p>\n<h2>Getting around<\/h2>\n<h3>Driving in Cyprus<\/h3>\n<p>Cyprus follows the British driving system; the steering wheel is on the right hand side of the car, and driving is on the left side of the road.<\/p>\n<p>If you arrive with a driving license from your country, you can apply to convert it to a Cypriot driving license. These minibuses have bicycle transport and assisted access for passengers with physical disabilities.<\/p>\n<h3>Intercity Transport<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/intercity-buses.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">green Intercity buses<\/a> offer transport between the five main cities in the Republic of Cyprus and run on a fixed schedule.<\/p>\n<h3>Private Taxis<\/h3>\n<p>Private taxis are readily available for any journeys within town, and can also be hired for intercity transportation, including to the airport. It is advisable to agree the fee at the time of booking. Bookings are easily made by telephone. A taxi ride in the city can easily cost anywhere from EUR 5-15. A private taxi from Nicosia to Larnaca airport for example normally costs around EUR60.<\/p>\n<h3>Car Rental<\/h3>\n<p>Several companies offer car rental services all over the island. Rates vary according to the season, duration of hire and the type of vehicle. These include Aegean Airlines, Lufthansa and British Airways. If your appliance&#8217;s plug does not match the shape of these sockets, you will need a travel plug adapter.
