{"id":958,"date":"2025-06-20T13:15:57","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T13:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/centralasia\/?page_id=958"},"modified":"2025-10-20T11:26:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T11:26:47","slug":"information-for-asylum-seekers-and-refugees-in-tajikistan","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.unhcr.org\/centralasia\/tajikistan\/information-for-asylum-seekers-and-refugees-in-tajikistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Information for Asylum-Seekers and Refugees in Tajikistan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#faeb00\">You can apply for asylum in Tajikistan if you are inside the country or at a border entry point (airport, land border crossing).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Republic of Tajikistan has acceded to the <strong>1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees<\/strong> and its <strong>1967 Protocol<\/strong>, and it has a national law On Refugees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All claims for asylum in Tajikistan should be submitted to the <strong>Department on Citizenship and Work with Refugees (DCWR)<\/strong> under the <strong>Passport Registration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Internal Affairs is the competent government authority responsible for asylum-related matters in Tajikistan, including the implementation of refugee legislation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#8fc1e1\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p>Please be informed that according to Resolution No. 325, asylum-seekers and refugees who arrived after 2000 are not allowed to live in certain areas:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gorno-Badakhshan Province;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cities: Dushanbe, Khujand, Bokhtar (former Kurgan-Tyube), Tursunzade, Ragun, Levakand (former Sarband), Kulob, Nurek, Buston (former Chkalovsk), Guliston (former Kairakum), Taboshar, Konibodom, Isfara and Bobojon Ghafurov;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Districts: Varzob, Lakhsh (former Jirgital), Panj, Jaikhun (former Kumsangir), Farkhar, Hamadoni, Shamsiddini Shohin (former Shurabad), Shaartuz, Kabodion and Dusti (former Jilikul).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The following locations are allowed for residence by asylum-seekers and refugees: Hissor, Rudaki, Vahdat, Faizabad, Darband, Tajikabad, Tavildara, Gharm, Yavan and other districts not prohibited under Resolution 325.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f <strong>If you violate Government Resolution No. 325 by living in restricted areas, your refugee status may be cancelled and you may face deportation.
