Returning to your country of origin

ATTENTION!

Voluntary repatriation is FREE of charge and registration is conducted every week on Wednesday from 2 pm to 4 pm by the UNHCR office in the camp.

Voluntary Repatriation is the return of any refugee and asylum-seeker to their country of origin based on a free and informed choice.

UNHCR and the Government of Botswana facilitates Voluntary Repatriation for refugees and asylum seekers in Botswana to go home in safety and dignity.

  • You can contact the UNHCR Dukwi Office or the Office of the Camp Management MoJ to express interest in Voluntary Repatriation
  • You will be registered referred for further assessment
  • You will be assisted with a return flight or road transport and will be offered further assistance upon arrival

UNHCR is currently only able to facilitate Voluntary Repatriation for applicants who are active asylum seekers and refugees in Botswana.

UNHCR is currently facilitating departures to most countries on the continent with some restrictions to volatile areas in Eastern DRC (no returns to Kivus, Tanganyika, Ituri), Somalia (returns to Central and Southern parts only), Ethiopia (situation fast-evolving ).

UNHCR global positions guide UNHCR on returns to various areas of origin and will only facilitate returns to safe areas, not to place returnees at risk.
